AFF A300

The Netapp AFF A300 is a 3RU chassis based on Flash technology. It belongs to the midrange product offering and is in the same price segment as the NetApp A-Series. This model is positioned to work in modern data centers under the latest generation of cloud services.

NetApp AFF A300 – a progressive storage system (storage), created exclusively for work with SSD-drives. The manufacturer provides the possibility of expanding the “raw” volume of disk space of the system up to 141 PB.

An up-to-date version of ONTAP software is supplied with the device. This storage model is characterized by the highest level of fault tolerance in its class, economical in terms of resource consumption and high performance.

Key Features of the AFF A300

The following number of ports per HA pair can be connected to the AFF A300:

  1. 4 1/10GBase-T (RJ-45) ports;
  2. 4 32 Gb FC ports;
  3. 16 8/16 Gb FC ports;
  4. 24 10 GB FCoE SFP+ type ports;
  5. 32 ports of SFP+ type on 10 GBE;
  6. 8 ports of QSFP+ type for 40 GBE.

At the same time, the maximum possible capacity of the entire storage system can be 11.75 PB per HA pair (up to 141 PB in a cluster with a total of 12 HA pairs). The AFF A300 supports up to 384 drives per HA-pair (up to a total of 4608 drives per 12 HA-pair cluster).

The device has 256 GB of cache memory per HA-pair (3072 GB in a cluster of 12 HA-pairs). A total of 24 physical 2.5-inch SFF SSD disks can be installed in a single 2U disk shelf.

The AFF A300 system can be HA-paired by switches or directly, and also gives the user the ability to cluster multiple HA-pairs: up to 12 pairs in a NAS or 6 pairs in a SAN.

The AFF A300 is supported in MetroCluster configurations:

  • 2 nodes;
  • 4 nodes: 2 switched or non-switched clusters and fabric-attached storage or 4 nodes with two active-active nodes at each site;
  • 8 nodes (NAS): 4 clusters with a pair of nodes (switched or non-switched) and fabric-attached storage or 8 nodes with clusters having 4 active-active nodes per site.

Additional functionality of AFF A300

The ONTAP firmware supports Snapshot and data replication (both local SyncMirror and remote SnapMirror), as well as the function of dynamic editing of volume sizes Thin provisioning.

In modern versions of ONTAP there is an additional feature of storage virtualization – MultiStore (creating backups, restoring from backups, cloning and copying information, etc.).

AFF A300 can work in full compatibility with modern top-level software solutions and virtualization software, providing information protection at the system and application level:

  • SnapLock;
  • XenServer;
  • Oracle;
  • SharePoint;
  • SAP;
  • Exchange;
  • VSphere;
  • SQL Server;
  • Hyper-V SnapManager, etc.
