Cluster

Cluster (cluster) – A certain amount of data or hardware capacity organized in a logical group to form a single resource. With the help of clusters you can increase the reliability and performance of the system.

Transition to a new stage of building technological processes

. Cloud computing has become a new trend in the modern market in the IT sector of companies. Before the emergence of interest in business process optimization, companies built IT infrastructure using traditional methods: purchasing server equipment, designing classic topologies that did not provide for load balancing between system components. This led to low system performance and lack of fault tolerance.

What is a Cluster

Cluster – a set of combined computing power, forming a single system. The main quality of a cluster as a technological optimization tool is redundancy. Clusters are used so that in case of malfunctions on any of the network segments, it was possible to ensure stable operation of the service(s). Logically, a cluster exists as a single server composed of server machines united in a group.

Orchestration (management) of the cluster is performed with the help of a specialized software module (orchestrator). Within a cluster, nodes (servers) can synchronize data. With the help of orchestration mechanisms, messages in the network are transmitted faster without clogging the channels, as they are efficiently distributed among the destination addresses. Clusters are necessary to realize a large number of non-linear simultaneous processes. In a classical network infrastructure it is difficult to group computations in such a way that the system works faster. A cluster device solves the problem of grouping servers, keeping them synchronized and communicating in an organized manner.

Server clustering usage models

Centralized information storage

A cluster of servers can be implemented as a centralized information repository in a system. A single information pool provides uninterrupted access to records in the database. In case the cluster consists of a large number of servers, the use of the centralized storage model will lead to difficulties in data transfer and backup, i.e. to an overall loss in infrastructure performance

Independence of servers within a cluster

Cluster units function independently of each other, when an emergency situation arises, there is an opportunity to delegate tasks to another unit(s). With constant redistribution comes the problem of limited utilization of a shared database. Cluster solutions are the next step towards full automation and flexibility of information processes in the IT organization of a company.
