Cisco UCS C480 M5
Servers of this type are recommended to be used for computing at the edge of the network (edge computing) or for work at other levels (tiers) of the application architecture. The server is characterized by high performance and efficiency.
Cisco UCS C480 M5 features and benefits
Cisco UCS C480 M5 server belongs to the enterprise scale servers and is characterized by increased computing power and advanced I/O system.
The Cisco UCS C480 M5 rackmount server is worth using in areas where you need to provide:
- high performance DBMS, including those running entirely in-memory database;
- virtualization or stable operation of the processes related to it;
- functioning of various analytical applications that process large amounts of data;
- functioning of various analytical applications that process large amounts of data;
- operation of infrastructure supporting multiple virtualized automated workplaces (Virtual Desktop Infrastructure).
The server is built on a modular architecture. Thanks to this solution, it can be scaled vertically, thus providing support for large-sized databases in a single server.
Form factor Cisco UCS C480 M5 4RU, there is enough space to install any auxiliary components as needed.
Moreover, the modular solution implemented in the Cisco UCS C480 M5 allows the end user to pay on a pay-as-you-go basis for only those hardware and software features that are required in a particular case.
The server can be equipped with 6 powerful GPUs, thanks to which the server system can successfully cope with the most diverse in complexity and resource-intensive graphics tasks, including desktop virtualization (VDI).
Hardware Configuration
The Cisco UCS C480 M5 is equipped with efficient and high-performance hardware that, depending on the specific configuration, can be based on 2 or 4 processors of the Intel Xeon Scalable family, including 2nd Generation. Each of the processors can have a maximum of 28 cores.
The maximum potential of the server can be unlocked using DDR4 2933 MHz memory strips. Its volume can be expanded up to 12 TB. The necessary volume can be formed with the help of 16, 32, 64, 128 and 256 GB memory slots. The total number of DIMM-slots for RAM is 48. Intel Optane DC Persistent Memory can be installed on half of the slots.
The storage subsystem of Cisco UCS C480 M5 is also characterized by a modular structure, and it can also be expanded if necessary, adapting it to the necessary tasks. Local storage capacity is 32 SATA and SAS and PCIe NVMe small form factor SFF media on the front side.
The server system is characterized by increased resilience to power failures, which is due to redundant power supplies that support “hot-swap” and the installation of redundant power supplies 1600 W AC.
Interaction with the network is provided thanks to two 10 GBASE-T Intel x550 Ethernet ports and optional convergent adapters Cisco VIC, installed in the mLOM slot and PCIe Gen3.0 slots, the total number of which is 12. And the server management is realized on the basis of Cisco proprietary software, CIMC in standalone mode or as a part of UCS Manager domain in the mode of integration with UCS unified factory.
